Investing isn't a dirty word

There is this feeling in the UK that the stock market is too risky, or just for rich people.

This is a really negative trope, and is entirely unsupported by the facts. The stock market has always gone up for much longer than it drops back and the key is to start investing little and often and from an early age which smooths out the ups and downs. People also assume that there is no safe investment path that will keep pace with UK house price rises. This is another misleading assumption.

Since the 1950s, house prices in the UK have risen by around 5% a year.

But the returns on a global index fund have risen by around 10% a year – in other words double!

A global index fund is basically an investment in the worlds’ biggest companies – across every country and region. This helps to spread your risk as these funds are invested in around 3,500 different businesses from Apple to Zynga.

One of our key missions at Kaldi is to make sure that you don’t have to be fabulously wealthy to invest in these funds by offering them to our app users in an easy signup format, with lots of explanatory help and with no additional fees.

Low fees is another winner with these kinds of global index funds as fees can make a huge dent in your long-term savings. We’ll cover the impact of fees in a future newsletter, but you will only be offered low fee funds by Kaldi to make sure that your investments grow as much as possible. We want to show you how you can save up enough for a house deposit and for your retirement, by investing little and often (helped by Kaldi cashback) in the stock market.
