The idea for Kaldi came into my head when I was standing in Pret with my re-usable cup.

I am a bit of a coffee addict and I used to save £1 to £1.50 a day just using my own cup. I started thinking about how much that all added up to in a year or even years, and how great it would be if those ‘everyday’ savings could be squirreled away for something meaningful.

I’ve also got three children of my own, two of whom are now at university age, and with the cost of home ownership having spiralled upwards I was always worrying about how they would eventually be able to afford somewhere of their own.

I also hated the idea of them being poor or alone in old age with me being long gone and unable to help them. So as a concerned parent I decided to try and do something positive for their age group and that’s how the idea for Kaldi has really developed since that early brainwave in the coffee shop.

Our team has also grown since that first idea and every one of them is dedicated to helping to solve these challenges.

Over the next few months, I want to share more of our Kaldi journey with you as one of our early supporters and with your enthusiasm and backing we can help to turn the page on financial stress for young people in this country by getting them to save little and often as part of their everyday shopping – without even thinking about it!
